My name is Colleen and I have been an animal lover for as long as I can remember. As a child, I was always trying to bring home every stray I saw - begging my parents to just PLEASE let me keep them! I've worked at breeding kennels, boarding kennels, vet's offices and as a dog groomer. I studied grooming at the New York School of Dog Grooming. Later in life, I earned a certificate as a veterinary assistant through an adult continuing education course. Most everything I've ever been interested in has involved animals.
This picture here is one of the rare times you will find me in front of the camera. My daughter took this photo for me on a very emotional day. The dog pictured, Shea, had been in the shelter for a couple of months and the shelter was very full. I had grown very attached to Shea during our many visits. The shelter had gone into a code red situation and there was an EU list for the following day. I was saying goodbye to Shea because I did not know if I would see her again. My daughter picked up the camera and snapped the shot for me. It turns out the story has a happy ending as Shea did get rescued and made it out of the shelter, unfortunately, there have been many dogs that have not. Those dogs will always have a special place in my heart. I do what I do for them and in hopes that there will be fewer and fewer like them.
